It was his involvement with the last scientist, a Dr. Reinhardt Lane, that would bring these beliefs crashing down around him. While the two worked on the self-sustaining generator, Farley was approached by Shiwan Khan, the last descendant of Ghengis Khan. Recognizing Farley's desire for power, Shiwan drew Farley over to his side with the promise of a place at his side when he ruled the world. What he didn't anticipate was interference from the Shadow, whom Farley attempted to kill, but failed. Ironically, it was during the second attempt to end the Shadow's life when everything changed. Fearing the imminent possibility that the Shadow would kill him, Farley wound up slipping on his coat over the suit for what he thought would be the last time, walked down into the lobby... and wound up in the basement of the Conrad Hotel, where he wound up meeting scientist Dr. Emmett Brown, a.k.a. Doc. After that, things got... interesting. | Farley Claymore was working with a Dr. Reinhardt Lane on what was to be a self-sustaining generator, which could provide energy without having to deal with human maintenance. However, a powerful psychic named Shiwan Khan wanted to use the generator to create a bomb that would help further his plans for world conquest, and lured Farley to his side with the promise of a place in his new world order. Of course, this inevitably brought both Shiwan and Farley in conflict with the Shadow, and when the Shadow made an assault on Shiwan's lair, Farley ended up being killed during an attempt to get away. | Farley Claymore |
| The whole affair with Shiwan and the Shadow brought the possibility of psychic weaponry to the attention of several parties with access to advanced technology and the lack of scruples. Since the Shadow had Shiwan lobotomized, removing the parts of the brain that held his powers, and since the Shadow would naturally be averse to that kind of thing, they retrieved Farley's body, revived him, then extensively altered his brain. Though the experiments were a success, the intervention of the Shadow forced them to put Farley in suspended animation until such time as they could revive him and continue their work. However, things didn't go quite as planned... | What happened? |
| The modifications made to Farley's mind gave him abilities similar to the Shadow's, as well as increased intelligence and learning capability. Before the Shadow got involved, his keepers had planned on brainwashing him and training him in the use of his abilities.
